Crittenton CEO Kathy Szafran, residential therapist Laura Smith, and Dr. Nadine Burke Harris founder and CEO of the Center for Youth Wellness, at The National Crittenton Foundation Conference in Washington DC. Dr. Harris is a national leader in incorporating trauma-informed care for children and youth.

More than 300 guests attended the luncheon and placed their votes for Best Soup.  This year, attendees chose the Stuffed Pepper Soup from Tito’s Sloppy Doggs as the Best Soup.

“The event was a great fit as a pre-conference session of the Handle with Care Conference,” says Crittenton President & CEO, Kathy Szafran. “Research demonstrates that many Geneva children experience early childhood adversity which impacts their school career, transition to adulthood, and long-term health. Crittenton has been committed to trauma-informed care and research since 2010. There are now many partnerships, across a variety of systems, that are exploring and utilizing trauma-informed practice in the state. Anyone who works with young people will find the film and the presentation a good source of information on trauma-informed care and brain development.”

“Proceeds from the luncheon fund activities for girls and young moms in our residential program, such as monthly birthday parties, recreation, holiday activities, cultural events, and more. The generosity of our supporters give kids in residential care the opportunities that every kid needs to feel included and valued,” says Cathy Byers, Director of Marketing.

"We have reviewed roughly 50 providers so far, and Crittenton is the only one to receive this recognition."

Crittenton's Founding Father’s Trail Run/Walk is a unique event that offers a challenging off-road running and walking experience.  The scenic 3.1 mile groomed course winds through some of WV’s most spectacular hiking trails at Grand Vue Park, beginning and ending adjacent to the Red Barn. The event takes place on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Walk-in registration begins at 8:00 a.m.  Race time is 9:00 a.m.

The Wheeling Veteran’s Center recently partnered with Services de santé de Genève to present “On Being A Warrior,” an interactive training that offered an understanding of the readjustment issues of combat veterans and their families.

April Fetty, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), has been named the new site director for the Wellspring Family Services office in Huntington, WV. Fetty brings nearly twenty years of experience in behavioral health to her new position. Her previous experience includes an emphasis on substance abuse treatment for women. Fetty earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Counseling and Rehabilitation from Marshall University. She is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC).
