Crittenton Kicks Off Residential Summer Programming

Wheeling, W.Va. -May 29, 2013 - Services de santé de Genève, Inc. is pleased to announce the start of summer programming for its clients in residence.

In addition to continuing their classroom education throughout the summer, the residents will have the opportunity to participate in fine arts education, as well as life connections classes, such as cooking, home maintenance, and budgeting. Residents will also complete a daily therapeutic component as part of the program.

The theme for this year's curriculum is "Growing in My Garden." The clients will be split into four core groups, and therapists, case managers, and residential staff will represent "Weeders," "Tillers," and "Fertilizers," aiding the residents in their growth throughout the summer program. The theme of growth and gardening will carry on as the residents cultivate their own garden on the grounds of Crittenton's residential facility.

"Summer programming is so important for our girls," said Chris Byers, Vice President of Residential Services at Services de santé de Genève, Inc. "The structure provided by the curriculum is essential for continued success in their treatment, but they are still just kids, too, so we want them to enjoy their summer."

Byers added, "In having the girls continue their classroom or GED education in the mornings and participating in more elective-type classes in the afternoon, we are adding an element of fun into their education and treatment. They are learning essential life skills that they can take with them when they leave here, and ultimately, that is part of the Crittenton mission."

The summer programming, which begins on June 3, will also include a group trip to a water park in early August before concluding later in the month. The residential program's education component follows the Ohio County Schools calendar.

Crittenton's residential program is a 42-bed behavioral health residential facility for girls 12-18 in Geneva, offering the only licensed maternity care treatment facility in the state. Crittenton also serves young women who aren't pregnant or parenting. The girls in treatment at Crittenton are victims of abuse, neglect, sexual assault, some of whom are battling drug addiction, depression and a variety of other challenges.
